At this very moment I am preparing to head down to the Spring City area to visit a very good friend of mine. This friend is directly responsible for my cigar hobby and he never lets me forget it. Before I moved to Reading, we used to hang out on a regular basis. Since the move, we hardly get together anymore due to the hour drive separating our houses.
When I make plans to visit I always make sure to load up a bag of cigars to take down to him. With the variety of cigars that I pick up on my travels, I like to put together a small sampling of the cigars that he isn’t going to find at his local tobacconist.
Every time we get together and I drop off a goodie bag of cigars he is always very appreciative. This is one of the bonds of cigar smokers that I’ll never get tired of. Watching someone, good friend or new friend, root through a gift bag of cigars will always bring a smile to my face.

I like to share new acquisitions with friends. Most of the time the act is reciprocated.
When I can send them something they’ve never tried or their favourite one that they can’t find, and the joy when they open it up. I especially love surprising them and sending it from a different address than where I live (e.g., when on the road).
I do enjoy surprising friends with smokes, whether that be in the form of a bomb or a hand-delivered gift. It’s a rewarding, selfless act that never gets old.
My favorite aspect has to be the bond that’s strengthened with every cigar shared – it’s a gift they’ll (hopefully) enjoy immensely. Whether they reciprocate is irrelevant to me. That said, as I think of those I’ve gifted sticks to, they’re all the sort who WOULD hit me back.
But they’re not doing it b/c they feel beholden to do it; they’re doing it because they genuinely have something they’d like to share.
I am in the opposite situation, I have nobody but myself to blame for my 3 stick a day habit. But I am responsible for introducing a few friends (well more than a few actually) to the benefits of the cigar.
So, I still drop a few sticks to those friends once in a while–less now that they are off the training wheels–especially if I get a windfall like I did recently with some LX2s.
I kinda like introducing people to new cigars, that is why I loved working at a B&M.
I like bringing them to see the amazement on their faces and how much they enjoy them. Its always better when you have a cigar with someone that is a friend and someone who enjoys them!
I love gifting cigars. Either to a fellow smoke who I think will love them or to someone new that wants to try out cigars. I love to share my cigars. Is that the first commandment of BOTLism? Thou shall PIF, gift and bomb!
There is something about gifting cigars that alway make you feel good about yourself.
I wouldn’t have gotten in the hobby like I did without friends, so I try to return the favor.
