Walt,

Crate training has worked wonders for my chocolate lab puppy. Literally within 2 weeks of having her she was house broken (minus the very rare accident she would have due to lack of us not paying attention). Dogs like sleeping in enclosed areas, especially if you wrap the crate with a blanket. We actually let her sleep in bed with us every night, partly because she is still not at the point that we can trust her by herself just yet. The other reason is because she is so damn cute and cuddly :)

In regards to other shooting the breeze topics, I would love to see a segment on the different kinds of alcoholic beverages you enjoy with your smokes. Maybe show us whatever you have in the liquor cabinet and what you have found they pair well with. I would love to have some ideas next time I make a trip to the liquor store.

Mike,
We have been trying that, sometimes it works and sometimes he plops back down because that is where he thinks he should be.

Carlos,
We are getting close to allowing the pup to sleep outside of his crate. Every once in a while he gets into something that he shouldn't. As soon as he stops shredding the occasional magazine, he can have free reign at night.

I've got two labs..the male is yellow and the female chocolate. They both weigh about 90 lbs.

You're right about the dog not "going" in the area where they sleep. My chocolate lab as a puppy figure out that if she put her butt up against the crate, she could "go" through the open space. Me and my wife thought it was the other dog pooping up against the crate. So, my geeky tech innerself setup a webcam pointing at her crate and I was able to keep an eye on her from work. To my amazement, she got up and pooped out the crate. We put an end to her spending the night in the crate and no more accidents from that moment on.
