Transition from Range Box to Range Bag

Range Box - 1

I am a toolbox guy. I have a separate toolbox for each job that I might find myself doing around the house. If I need to do something to my car, I grab my toolbox filled with ratchets, sockets, and wrenches. If I need to repair a piece of furniture, I grab the toolbox with my planes, squares, and chisels. If I need to do some plumbing, well, you get the idea.

When I got into the hobby of firearms, it only seemed natural to purchase a toolbox to contain all of the various items I would take to the range. Initially I considered a range bag designed just for shooting, but many of them were priced higher than I felt comfortable spending on a bag.

In short order I managed to outgrow my range toolbox. My range trips started off with me carrying my toolbox in one hand, two pistol cases in the other, with a third pistol case tucked under an arm. Once loaded into the trunk of my car, I would go through the same process to move the items from my car to one of the shooting tables.

Range trips were becoming a hassle with all of the miscellaneous stuff I was carrying. In an effort to make things easier on myself, I was once again back to considering a range bag. It just so happens that over Black Friday, Midway USA ran a sale on thier range bags. With more than $20.00 off, I decided to bite the proverbial bullet and place an order.

The vido below gives you a little tour of my range toolbox and new range bag. Since recording the video I have taken the Midway USA bag to the range and love it. I’m not exactly sure what I should be taking to the range (I used to take cleaning supplies and such), which is why I have a question for you.

What is in your range bag?

  1. Nice range bag, don’t think you’ll be short on storage space for awhile….
When I go to the range I bring my handguns, eyes, ears, ammo, targets, tape/staple gun.
I always clean my guns at home. I am very detail oriented, and I don’t want to hold everyone up that I’m with, while I’m cleaning my gun. I clean my guns after each range visit. I’ve heard too many horror stories about guns jamming due to neglectful maintenance. A clean gun is a reliable gun.
    Happy shooting.

  2. The Midway range bags are top notch. I have a XL 5.11 range bag, but I want to get a smaller one for days when I only want to bring a couple pistols and a basic cleaning set up. That open pocket on the side if for a water bottle. Dillon and iShot make great range bags also. The spare remove cinch bag is mainly used to store empty shell cases in case you reload.

    1. Ben,
It is funny you mention what those things are for. On my first trip out to the range with my new bag I stuck my water bottle and thought “That is a nice place for a water bottle”. When I was done at the range and collecting fired brass, I thought “that cinch bag would be great for this”.

I don’t reload but it is something I’d like to do, so for the time being I’m holding on to what I’m shooting. Right now it is just random plastic containers of .380, 9mm, and .40

Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.
