My First Range Gun: Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm

Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm - 1.jpg

Earlier this week I posted a video of My First Pistol – Beretta Model 70S in .380. It was intended to be something of interest to breath a bit of life back into my blog. After all of the positive feedback I received in the comment section, as well as on TwitterOpens in a new tab., FacebookOpens in a new tab., and YoutubeOpens in a new tab., I decided to strike while the iron is hot and post another gun related video.

This time around I talk about my First Range Gun, a Smith & Wesson M&P in 9mm. I purchased this particular pistol because I was very interested in getting in to competative shooting. In addition, the full size gun would be much more comfortable to shoot than my compact Beretta Model 70S, not to mention ammunition cost is considerably lower.

In the video I explain the process of selecting this particular model over a comparable Glock and Springfield XD. I also discuss some issues I had with rust on the slide and how pleasant Smith & Wesson customer service was to work with. The video runs about twenty-two minutes and flows much like my previous gun video.

  1. Walt,

I have a lot of pistols, but 3 of them get a lot of use.

    SIG Sauer P226 (West Germany)
    Glock G23
Smith and Wesson Combat Masterpiece .38 Special

    1. Ben,
I’ve never fired a Sig but I hear nothing but great things about them. One if these days I’m going to have to see if I can track one down and give it a try. I’ve got plenty of friends with guns but I don;t know that any of them own a Sig.

I need to pick up a revolver. They are fun to take to the range.

Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.

  2. Walt, looks like a fantastic pistol hope your enjoying it. Most often used guns for me are my Smith & Wesson .357 mag revolver mod 686, it’s a beast. And I still love shooting my Ruger 10/22 carbine , can’t beat the price of shooting .22’s!

    1. Aaron,
It has been a pleasure to shoot, I’m very happy with it.

A larger Smith & Wesson revolver is on my wish list. I think a J frame would be more practical, for the time being, but one day I’ll have a K frame.

      Thanks for commenting

    1. Ben,
I don’t own a .22 but my wife does. I bought her a Beretta Neos a couple of years ago after we took a basic pistol class. She loved shooting the instructors Neos so picked one up for her for Christmas.

My wife hasn’t been out shooting since before she was pregnant with our daughter. I take it to the range every trip. Lots of fun and super cheap to shoot.

  3. That’s actually the last gun I bought my self. Definitely has some aggresive lines to it. I do think I want to buy the new Smith and Wesson Kit gun .22 that was featured on Top Shot this year. I want a .22 revolver that has a swing out cylinder for load. I also have a .22 Bearcat from Ruger and a H&R 9 shot .22. You just can’t beat a .22 for cheap fun and practice, especially with today’s ammo prices.
