Team Down Zero at Ontelaunee Rod and Gun Club

When you hear the name Team Down Zero, your mind probably goes right to thinking of IDPA. Perhaps you envision a small team of shooters that strive for accuracy? Perhaps they dominate the shooting circuit with their impressive times and uncanny ability to clean a stage? Perhaps they are the Harlem Globetrotters of the shooting world!?

While Team Down Zero certainly is tied to IDPA, it is none of those other things. Actually, the team is a program that Dave Bair, Match Director at Ontelaunee Rod and Gun Club, is trying to get off the ground for 2013. The program is free of charge and open to anyone interested in growing as a shooter.

The idea was to create a program that would reward shooters not only on their performance but on their attendance as well. The more matches you shoot, the better your odds of coming out on top at the end of the year. Because this program is in its infancy, it is only being run at Ontelaunee. In time, after any and all bugs have been worked out, other area clubs may participate as well.

Earning points is easy, all you have to do is show up to a match. Earning a lot of points, that is a bit tougher. How many points a shooter earns is based on their performance and the number of Team Down Zero participants in attendance. For instance, lets say that Ontelaunee ran a match last weekend that drew seventy-five shooters. Of those seventy-five shooters, lets say that twenty-five of them were signed up for the Team Down Zero program.

When the scores are completed, Overall Match Results would be generated. The highest placing Team Down Zero member would receive twenty-five points, the second highest would receive twenty-four points, the third highest would receive twenty-three points, and so one and so forth.

Throughout the year points will be accumulated. At the end of the year, the person with the most points wins. The reward for your efforts is improved shooting (hopefully), camaraderie, and bragging rights. I’m told that there may be a prize or two but it is not the focus as of right now.
