Ontelaunee IDPA: 2013 Burt Schaffer Memorial Match

Sanctioned IDPA Match - Ontelaunee - Registration - May 2013

On the weekend spanning May 18th and 19th of 2013, I will be attending the Burt Schaffer Memorial Sanctioned IDPA Match at Ontelaunee Rod and Gun Club. I am pleased to announce that I will be shooting this match as a Stogie Review Sponsored ShooterOpens in a new tab., much like I did the 2012 Liberty Match at Valley Forge.

Having shot a handful of matches at Ontelaunee, I know that Match Director, Dave Bair, puts on an excellent monthly match. I am very eager to see what he can do with his first Sanctioned IDPA Match.

Dave has been a good friend both as a shooter and a supporter of WaltInPAOpens in a new tab.. I would love to be able to volunteer my time to help as a member of the staff but, I have prior USPSA commitments which prevent that.

Once my registration check is received and I am allowed into the self-squadding system, I’ll be looking for a slot on Sunday (preferably in the afternoon). I’m going to keep my fingers crossed and hope that the USPSA Match I’m shooting on Saturday plays out to my benefit and has me loose and ready to shoot the following day.

If you are planning on shooting, drop me a line. Perhaps we can arrange to be on the same squad. I’ll be recording my shooting and may need a hand running a third person camera. If I have a shooter that is willing to lend a hand, I would be happy to return the favor and put together match video for them as well.

  1. One of the requirements for attending a Sanctioned Match is having an IDPA Classification. Onetlaunee will be holding a Classification Match on March 17, 2013, if anyone needs a classification.

  2. Thanks Walt for posting this. Burt Schaffer was a very good friend of mine, and we lost him way too soon. He was very instrumental in my growth as a shooter in IDPA. Burt gave me my very first Load & Make Ready, and I was standing right behind him when he made his final Unload & Show Clear. This match is to honor what Burt has done for the sport of IDPA, and to insure that his final wish is preserved, that IDPA will continue! This is my way of saying “Thank You” to a person that was a mentor, teacher, and great friend! We miss you Burt!
