Keeping Track of Local USPSA and IDPA Matches

In my house, my wife and I used to have problems keeping track of plans. I’m sure most people can relate and know the confused ‘deer in the headlights’ look that comes immediately after a sentence which includes ‘that match I’m shooting tomorrow’.

I needed a system that would allow my wife and I to keep track of both personal and family plans. There was a catch, I didn’t want to have to be standing in our kitchen, infront of the family calendar, to see what was going on.

The solution was so simple that I couldn’t believe we hadn’t incorporated it sooner. We both have smartphones and we both use our respective calendars to keep track of personal plans. All I had to do was whip up a shared calendar which both my wife and I could edit. This would, in essence, digitize the Puppies and Kittens calendar hanging up in our kitchen and there would be no more confused looks when either one of us forgot to check it.

So that our family calendar didn’t get cluttered up with all of the Eastern Pennsylvania USPSA and IDPA Matches, I setup a separate calendar made up of just those. I included all matches with a 1.5 hour drive from home. When I planned to attend a match, I would simply copy it to the Family Calendar. This caused duplicates on my combined calendar but it was well worth the trouble.

Creating the calendar was a snap with Google Calendar. I could enter one instance of a match and set a recurring date. With one entry I was able to take care of all of one club’s matches for the year. I included general information about the match and, most importantly, the physical address for GPS purposes.

My Eastern PA USPSA Calendar and Eastern PA IDPA Calendar have been combined and embedded below. If you are in the area, feel free to use it. If you find any mistakes or would like to see a local event added, let me know in the comments section and I’ll see what I can do.
