Getting My Wife Involved With Archery

Over the past several weeks, I’ve shared a few blog posts that focused on my daughter and I shooting archery together. We’ve both been having a great time at Stowe ArchersOpens in a new tab., however, I’ve been feeling a bit guilty.

While the two of us go to the archery club, my wife is usually back home with the new baby. She doesn’t get to see the joy on our daughter’s face when she shoots a 10. Actually, it goes deeper than that.

Ever since our first daughter was born, we really haven’t had much in the way of shared hobbies. We do plenty together but nothing involved enough that I’d consider it a hobby.

I got this idea that maybe we could all take up archery together. My youngest daughter couldn’t participate, of course, but it is definitely something she could grow into at a young age.

I’ve been gauging my wife’s interest for quite a while now but we haven’t been in the position to get her setup with a bow. With a little fun money tucked away, I thought maybe this was the time to get her a bow.

We discussed the idea and my wife seemed excited about joining my daughter and I on our archery outings. Between the little cash I had saved, a couple of Cabela’s Gift Cards, some Cabela’s Points, and a promotion that they were running, we made plans to get her all setup.

Our plans kind of fell through and we weren’t able to make it up to Cabela’s on our one free night, so I wound up going up and picking one out for her one day after work (the promotion was too good to pass up when combined with everything else). I wasn’t thrilled with the idea but she insisted that she didn’t know what she was looking at anyway, so she trusted my judgment.

I was bouncing back and forth between the Bear Cruzer and Diamond Infinite Edge Pro. The accessories pushed me over the edge and I went looking for help to track down a Bear Cruzer in Purple.

The associate tried tracking down the single Purple Bear Cruzer that inventory said was in the store. Several minutes went by before I got frustrated and opted for something else. Rather than picking up my second choice – a Diamond Infinite Edge Pro (in Pink Camo since it isn’t available in Purple), I began looking at the Diamond Ege SB-1.

For only $40 more, the SB-1 seemed like the better bow (the fact that they had one in purple settled it) and I made the purchase. Thanks to the promotion, I got $50 in store credit after making my purchase. After taking the bow out to my car, I went back inside to use the credit on a release and bow case (which earned me another $20 credit which I used for a second bow case in the Bargain Cave).

A few days later we went over to Stowe Archers so that I could get it setup for her. We did a little shooting together and my wife really seemed to enjoy herself. It was a nice time and I’m looking forward to many more trips to the archery range together.

  1. Hey Walt,
Congratulation on successfully getting your lady into archery.
I remember that your daughter has her own Bear Cruzer. Really glad to see that your wife is happy with the Diamond Ege SB-1.
    Have great memories together!

P/s: it’s been truly inspiring reading your blog though I do not have much time.
    Thanks for sharing!

    1. Harry,
      Thanks for the kind words.

We don’t get out to shoot as often as we like (due to work schedules) but it sure is nice to get out and shoot with my wife and daughter.
