New Holland IDPA In The Snow

Shooting competitively in the winter is something that I’m still getting used to. On the surface it seems simple but having to deal with multiple layers, just so that you can stay on the range for 3 to 5 hours, can be a real challenge. Add a little snow and some ice into the mix and things become even more challenging.

Driving out to the February 2013 New Holland IDPA Match was pretty nice, despite the snowfall the night before. I was a bit concerned that I wouldn’t make it up the club’s driveway but my car was up to the task (I had serious doubts though). Before long I was walking through a snowy parking area to get registered.

The turnout was pretty good and each squad filled out with eight to tend shooters. This month there were seven stages which made for a fun and challenging match. My total points down were better than they were in the last few matches but a Swing Through and a a cluster of 30 yard shots left me with 3 missed shots on the day.

I came away with 2nd Place in Stock Service Pistol (Sharp Shooter Class) with a time of 109.50 and 28 points down. This wasn’t me best performance but I enjoyed myself.
