Cards Against Humanity: A Party Game For Horrible People

Cards Against Humanity

As hard as I try, I can’t think of many occasions when my family sat down and played traditional party games together. Sure, we played the occasional game of Monopoly or Rummy but that was about it.

Typically, when my family got together, the adults sat around the kitchen table talking and the kids either played video games or played outside. As I got older, drinking games became the norm when out with friends. These days I’m one of the adults that is happy to sit around the kitchen table.

My wife’s friends and family are the total opposite. After dinner, the party games routinely come out and everyone is encouraged to play. They usually start out just fine but I bore easily. Before long I spend more time wishing the game would end than I do enjoying it.

Last week my Wife’s Best Friend celebrated her birthday. We got together with a group of friends and had dinner together (which was amazing, by the way – her friend is impressive in the kitchen). After everyone was finished eating, the topic of games came up and I cringed.

We played a couple of rounds of this ‘5 Second Game’ which was unfamiliar to me. It was amusing enough and everyone laughed quite a bit. When that ended, Cards Against Humanity hit the table and my interest was piqued.

I’ve heard that this game was hysterical and I was eager to give it a try. It wasn’t long before the entire room was roaring with laughter. I had tears in my eyes and a sore face from all the laughing.

I enjoyed the game so much that I ordered the Cards Against Humanity Base Set and the Fourth Expansion. I don’t know how often it will get used but I just had to have it on hand, just in case the opportunity to play presented itself.

I’ve been warned that Cards Against Humanity can get a little dull if the same group of friends play together, too often. In addition, different senses of humor can lead to some awkward moments. Even so, this game is a blast and I can’t wait to acquire the remaining expansion sets and bust it out at the next party.
