Earlier this week I was poking around Google Analytics and noticed that among the Top 10 Referrers to Walt In PA was The Gun Blog Black List. I have always gotten a steady trickle of incoming links since I was added to the list of gun bloggers, but never as many as I was seeing this month.

I headed over to the Gun Blog Black List to investigate. After a few minutes of poking around, I couldn’t find the source of the incoming links and just chalked it up to coincidence. However, while I was looking around, I came across an interesting Guest Post from Gracie McKee of Packing Pretty.

This particular article was entitled Some Tips for Women Starting Out in Competitive Shooting. While the article may be geared towards female shooters, I found it to be full of useful information for anyone, male or female, getting into competitive shooting.

Having been a competitor in the action pistol program at my range for the past three years, I have mostly competed against men. In the past year or so, we have picked up two other female competitors, but before that, I was the only girl shooting in our matches. Therefore, my only competition was made up of men who had been shooting for thirty plus years. What I realized, was that with the right mindset, I could stop worrying about the competition (as nothing good would come of it), and start focusing on my performance.

I have learned a lot along the way, and would like to share some of my little nuggets of wisdom with the woman who is just starting out in the world of competitive shooting. Hopefully these will help keep competing more fun and less stressful.
