A little more than a week ago I was sitting in Hamburg Game Association, having a beer and something to eat, with Troy. We had just finished up a hunt at Hawk Mountain and decided to stop in for a quick beer and something to eat on our way home.
One of the subjects to come up was the Christmas Indoor 600 Round Tournament at Stowe Archers. It was described as a well run target archery tournament in a nice facility. There would be a somewhat laid back atmosphere which would allow the tournament to run smoothly and quickly.
I had been toying with the idea of signing up for the Stowe Archers Spot League in January, so I accepted the invitation to shoot the tournament. Despite never having shot a spot target in any official capacity, I thought it would be a fun way to get more involved with target archery.
On Sunday, I shot my first Indoor 600 Practice Round in preparation for the tournament. I scored a 517 our of 600, which I’m pretty happy with. I’m going to try to shoot another practice round this weekend and want to continue practicing once or twice per week right up to the tournament.
By the time the tournament rolls around, I’d like to be averaging 540 in practice. Being new to target archery, I think this is a solid number to strive for. It will keep me focused but at the same time it is not as lofty as striving for a perfect score right out of the gate.
