Joining the Instagram Motorcycle Community

Several years back, I used to spend quite a bit of time on Social Media. I was an early adopter of TwitterOpens in a new tab. and spent a ridiculous amount of time chatting with friends through the service. I resisted FacebookOpens in a new tab. for a long time but that eventually followed Twitter and I was signed up and participating. Instagram followed a little while later.

Between the three services, notifications on my phone were getting out of hand. When Twitter shifted to more noise than meaningful updates, I deleted the app and walked away. In an effort to cut back on the Facebook Noise, I began cleaning house (I had a lot of “friends” through my cigars websiteOpens in a new tab. and while they were nice people – there was simply too much to manage). Instagram was the one account that I’d managed to keep under control, mostly because I wasn’t as deeply invested in the platform.

Over the years I’ve been keeping up with my Instagram account – but its been very much a personal feedOpens in a new tab.. I’ll share photos of a cigar I’m smoking, a bourbon I’m enjoying (usually along with the cigar), a photo of my dog while out hiking, or something amusing my kids were doing. It’s been a hodgepodge of updates that cover a wide variety of topics. Great for friends, not so much for a blog that I want to see gain a bit of traction in the motorcycle community.

In an effort to keep with the Niche of Motorcycles (and my blog content in general) I decided to go ahead and create a brand new Instagram Account for WaltInPAOpens in a new tab.. To be quite honest, starting from zero is both a little exciting and a little depressing. At times I feel like I’m talking to an empty room but I realize community comes with time, effort, and being genuine.
