This riding season, I have been making an effort to get out and see more local roadside attractions. When I discovered an impressive piece of artwork outside of J.W. Zaprazny
– depicting the 1963 Comic Hero Iron Man
, I just had to see it for myself!
On a brisk Sunday Morning, I hopped on my motorcycle and rode out to New Ringgold, PA, with a couple of friends. We rode through Boyertown, up and over Hawk Mountain, and enjoyed some fantastic back country roads. Maintaining a laid-back pace (and getting a little lost once or twice), the trip took us about ninety minutes.
The Iron Man Sculpture is located at the entrance of J.W. Zaprazny Auto Scrap and Recycling. There isn’t much in the way of information on this piece of artwork, but it appears to have been constructed in 2013 by artist Charles Applegate. It consists of welded stainless steel and stands six feet tall.
The scrap yard is active and can be busy with truck traffic coming in and out of the facility. There is plenty of space to park and remain out of the way while the business operates.
