Lower Providence USPSA: July 2012

It is the middle of the USPSA Season here in PA and clubs are buzzing with activity. I am loving it and always look forward to the next match on my schedule. Not everyone shared my excitement in July, unfortunately. Weather reports started off showing temperatures in the mid-nineties. As the match grew closer, reports were showing predicted temperatures in the high-nineties. The day before the event, predictions climbed even higher with reports of temperatures in the one-hundreds.

With these kind of temperatures, combined with the lack of shade at Lower Providence Rod & Gun Club, my companions from Team Custom Gun Finishes decided to pass on this particular match. Heat be damned, I was going to shoot.

As expected, the turnout was light and the heat was brutal but that didn’t stop me from shooting at full speed. At the end of each stage I was breathing heavy and sucking down water to keep hydrated. By the end of the day I was exhausted and couldn’t shoot another stage even if I wanted to. It was a lesson learned in surviving the heat and Shooting USPSA in July.
