Ontelaunee USPSA: March 2014

Ontelaunee USPSA - March 2014 - 62

Earlier this year, news spread like wildfire that Sean and Joe Roberts were starting a USPSA Program at Ontelaunee Rod and Gun Club. Not only would the new program add variety to our general area, it would easily be the largest.

Opening the season with a 10 Stage / 230+ Round Count Match seemed very ambitious. Not many clubs could pull off a match of this size, even if it weren’t their first. I’m happy to say that the match went off without a hitch. I’m told there was a minor hiccup with electronic scoring, early on in the day, but it had little impact on shooters.

I knew going in that it would be a long day on the range. The help make the long day more comfortable, food was available. For $5 I had a Cheeseburger (not a skimpy one either, this was a man-sized burger), a can of soda, a bag of chips, and a pack of cookies. Not only was the price of food great, profits from food sales go towards paying for 5 Junior Shooters to attend a Junior Camp at Lower Providence, later this year (Class is being instructed by Todd Jarrett).

The stages were a lot of fun and I can’t wait to go back next month. It was like shooting a Section Championship sized match for a fraction of the price. I see big things coming out of Ontelaunee USPSA in the coming months.

Ordinarily, I come home from a USPSA Match with a bunch of video. With the ground still being wet and the weather being cold, I skipped on setting up down-range cameras. I relied solely on my new Pivothead Recording Eyewear.

I didn’t get a chance to test the new camera before the match. I wish I would have because I came home with 10 Stages of useless video. I didn’t realize it until I saw the footage but I tend to tuck my head while shooting. All that could be seen in the video was footage of my forearms.

I’ve put some tape on the top of my glasses in the hopes that it will force me to keep my head up. I hope this not only produces better video, I’d like to think it will also improve my shooting.
