On July 31st I sat down for an interview with Lindsay Heller for the Slimming Down Dad Podcast. Lindsay was an amazing guest and during our conversation brought up the idea of participating in a Virtual Run to aid in my training.
The concept of a virtual run allows people from all over the world to participate in a race without actually having to be in a particular location. Participants are encouraged to run at their own pace and submit their times once the run is completed.
I liked the idea so much that I thought it would be fun to host one for Slimming Down Dad. We’ve been building a small community together and I thought it would be a great way to bring everyone together for a common goal. We will complete a 6.2 mile run / walk together and share online encouragement and camaraderie along the way.
On August 7th I took a chance and released a Podcast Episode in which I asked listeners to sign up for a no-pressure fun run. There is no entry fee, there are no awards, and we will be using the honor system but I promise you a rewarding experience. Simply sign up to run and enjoy all of the encouragement that comes along with making the commitment.

The Slimming Down Dad Virtual 10K Fun Run
Takes Place between October 23rd and October 30th.
You may be thinking “But Walt, I can’t run 6.2 miles!” Don’t stress over it. All I ask is that you make an effort and do what you can. If you can’t run the entire way, take a break or walk for a while. There is no judgement and all we care about is helping one another burn calories and get into better shape.
If you are unsure of training, I encourage you to follow along with the same program I am using – Hal Higdon’s Novice 10K Training Guide. I’ll be modifiying the program and stretching it out to try and get the most out of the program.
