Back in August I sat down in front of my computer and connected to Skype to have a conversation with Lindsay Heller for Episode 10 of the Slimming Down Dad Podcast. We had a great time shooting the breeze and, with Lindsay training for the 2015 NYC Marathon, Running became a very big part of the discussion.
When it was all said and done, I walked away from that episode feeling inspired. I wanted to transform my cardio sessions from just a way to burn some calories to running with a purpose. I decided to try training for a 10K and asked the Slimming Down Dad community if they would like to join me. With a handful of people on board, the Slimming Down Dad 10K Virtual Fun Run was born.
For weeks our little group began running and sharing posts in our Private Facebook Group. The encouragement was fantastic and my pride swelled at the sight of people encouraging one another along the way.
As you would imagine, things came up and we lost a few participants along the way. Even so, I want to express my gratitude to those that stuck it out and put in the miles. Ben, Chuck, Lindsay, and Jason – you all are inspirational people and I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for making the virtual fun run a success.
I hope to host another Slimming Down Dad Virtual Fun Run in the spring. I would love to see our little community grow and inspire others to put in the work to shed unwanted pounds.
