Today I shot 2014 Curt Peterson Southern PA Indoor 3D Shootout held at Stowe Archers. This was my third Indoor 3D Archery event and, I must say, I think I’m getting the hang of it. Don’t get confused, the process isn’t complicated but, Indoor 3D has more structure and has its own rhythm when compared to Outdoor 3D.
My biggest issue at this point is that I don’t know where the scoring zones are. This could easily be solved with a decent set of binoculars but that is just one more thing on the long list of things I need to buy for my various hobbies.
My process is to identify the replaceable vital insert. Most shots inside the insert score eight. From there, I guess as to where the twelve is located and try to hit it. Sometimes is works out, sometimes it doesn’t. This system isn’t ideal but it is working for me and my scores have improved week after week.
The target arrangement at Stowe was a lot of fun. I’d say most targets were in the neighborhood of 18 to 24 yards. One twist was an animal at 4 yards. This added an element of fear as no one wanted to be the shooter to rocket an arrow into the floor, at close range.
I shot with Zena again this week and enjoyed myself. Several of our shots were grouped tight together, which was a nice confidence boost for me. Somehow we managed to come away with the same score of 321 points.
