The past few weeks have been fast paced and stressful. After work today, I was hoping to get a message from Troy that he wasn’t able to make it to Stowe, to shoot the Field League, and that we would need to reschedule. I was a bit stressed and had a laundry list of things to do around the house.
When 2:00 rolled around, I loaded my bow into the car and began the trek to Stowe Archers. I wasn’t looking forward to shooting and my mind kept wandering back to all of the things that needed to get done over the weekend.
I arrived a bit early and made my way to the practice range. The sun was shining and the birds were chirping. Despite losing an arrow on the 80 Yard Practice Bunk, my stress was melting away and I began to enjoy myself.
After Troy arrived, we spent a little more time on the practice range then headed out to the Field Course. This week we would be shooting 14 Field Faces for a total of 56 arrows. After a few targets, I settled in and had a remarkably good time walking through the woods.
After about an hour and a half, we emerged from the woods. I shot a 239 and was pretty happy with my first attempt at shooting a Field Round (Half actually, they are normally shot twice – 112 arrows).
Next week we’ll tackle the second half of the course and continue on with the league. I’m told signups for the league are better than they have been in years past. This should make for some fun competition throughout the Spring.
