Weekly Workout Log: August 1st through August 7th

Wendler 5/3/1 While I may only be two weeks into the Boring but Big Template of Wendler 5/3/1, I feel like I’m making solid progress. I’ve been consistently hitting the AMRAP Set Goals and increasing my projected 1-Rep Max Weight. When the next cycle begins I believe my app will use the new weights to generate my lift figures. Using those new figures, as well as jumping from 50% to 60% on accessory lifts, is going to make for some …

Weekly Workout Log: June 13th through June 19th

Last week I sat down and began outlining a blog post that would take you, my readers, through my workout session for the previous week. Part way through the post I told myself I’d never do it again. It was just too involved for a simple blog post. Here we are a week later and I’m at it again. I’m not sure why I’m putting these posts together, aside from giving myself something to write about, but they are proving …

Don’t Lock Yourself Out of the Gym

In HealthTags Anytime Fitness, Exercise, Gym, Health, Weight Loss, Weight Loss JourneyJune 1, 20161 Comment Walt

Anytime Fitness of Gilbertsville is a great facility. The club is clean, affordable, and as the name implies, offers members anytime access. As a way of keeping cost down, the gym is only staffed during normal business hours. In order to gain access to the gym, all you need to do is place a small key-fob near a proximity sensor next to the door. You hear a little beep and the door unlocks. My biggest fear with Anytime Fitness was …

Back in the Gym and it Felt Glorious

In HealthTags Exercise, Fitness, Gym, Weight Loss, Weight Loss Journey, WorkoutMay 30, 2016Leave a comment Walt

A couple of weeks back I made a blog post about my wife being pregnant and how I let myself back-slide and put on weight. Since then I’ve started running again – mostly time with my daughter (she rides her bike while I trot along) but today I hit the gym for the first time in quite a while. My plan was to wait until after my wife delivered our new baby girl to start a gym routine. Things would …

The Leg Workout That Left Me Sore Two Days Later

In HealthTags Exercise, Gym, HealthSeptember 23, 20152 Comments Walt

Sometimes I think that I have a bit of a masochistic streak. I wake up each morning, pull myself up out of bed, and eagerly await the muscle soreness that comes after a tough workout. I know that muscle soreness isn’t the best way to judge the effectiveness of a workout but I see it as a little pat on the back for a job well done. When mornings with muscle soreness come few and far between, or stop altogether, …

Anytime Fitness of Gilbertsville

Being an 80’s kid, I remember well what life was like before the internet. Simple things like getting a post-card or letter in the mail was exciting. These days my mailbox seems to be a healthy blend of bills and junk mail. The luster is mostly gone but on the rare occasion, when a letter or card shows up, the magic returns and correspondence seems fun again. With the internet as big as it is, our mailboxes have been mostly …

Instagram post 2194655705206466528_205973269 8 Miles in the woods today - we’re both beat!
Instagram post 2188903448250909365_205973269 When I first heard about the concept of an Infinity Bottle - I knew I had to make one. While putting it together I thought it would be amazing (lots of good whiskey went into the bottle). The finished product is... well, a little weird...
.
I’m looking forward to tinkering with it and seeing how it evolves over time.

Instagram post 2185999451068158668_205973269 Nice mild night to be out in the deck with a cigar and a little Makers Mark. Also picked up a bottle of Maker’s 46 - I’m curious how they compare.

Instagram post 2179511146457681213_205973269 Took the dog for a walk and decided to finish off my cigar with a little Monkey Shoulder when I got back. It’s a nice change of pace but I think I like bourbon a little better.

Instagram post 2174349788267187207_205973269 Back in my youth I remember the occasional shot of Wild Turkey 101 and how rough it was. At least a decade later, pored neat and sipped on, this goes down surprisingly easy. At $25 per bottle I’d say this is definitely one of the more memorable “Budget Bourbons” I’ve had.

Instagram post 2172774119846693508_205973269 I have a bad habit of not posting these right away. This is from last night - one of the few nights I got to get away from work and just hang out with the guys at @gilbertsvillecigarfactory.
