Sight – Walt in PA

Around this time last year I was doing some bow shopping. I found a local shop, Woody's Sporting Goods in Wernersville, and took a look at what they had to offer in my price range. I came away having purchased a new Mission Craze Bow Package. What I have doesn't appear to be any sort of package offered by Mission Archery. Instead, I think Woody's Sporting Goods put together the package based on accessories offered in-store. Going this route seems to have saved me a little money and I didn't mind not having matching accessories. I'm a very long way from outgrowing the bow (in an accuracy sense) but the sight was one item that I felt needed replacing. The sight didn't offer any adjustment forward and backward which lead to some inconsistency lining up the sight housing and my peep sight. The pins themselves were also a bit of a problem due to their large size. When shooting practice dots at 30 Yards, the pin would just about cover up the dot. With a little money to spend, I decided to keep an eye out on Archery Talk for a used sight. I wanted something with more adjustability forward and backward, smaller pins, and possibly a 5 Pin system that allowed for tighter pin spacing. I came across a Trophy Ridge Hitman 5 Pin Sight with Micro Adjustment. The sight was well maintained and the seller was asking a fair price. I did some quick research online and found numerous places calling it one of the better sights for under $100.00. Liking what I saw, I contacted the seller and the sight arrived a few days later. I could see, before ever putting it on my bow, that it was a massive improvement over my current sight. The pins were far brighter than what I was used to. In fact, they were so bright inside my house that I thought the pin light had been turned on. When I turned the knob, the light came on and the pins got even brighter. I pulled off my old 3 Pin Sight and mounted my new Trophy Ridge Hitman. With the Hamburg Fish & Game Thursday 3D Shoot coming up in just a few days, I needed to get out and dial in the sight while I had some free time. Despite the rain this morning, the pins were plenty bright and setting them took little effort (the micro adjust really is a time saver). Because I do more target shooting than hunting, I opted to set my pins at 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60 Yards. I'm fairly happy with all but my 60 yard pin. By the time I got to that pin, I was tiring and my groups weren't really groups anymore. I'll have to go back and check it when I'm fresh. Chances are slim that I'll use my 50 and 60 yard pins, so I may go back and make them 25 and 35 yard pins. At the moment I'm very happy with my upgrade and can't wait to get out and shoot some more on Thursday.
