There comes a time in every persons life when they hear the call. It can be difficult to pick out in the still of the night but it is there, gentle yet persistant. When I heard the call, it was clear to me. In the time it takes the heart to make a single beat, I knew that it was time to stalk my prey. I slipped out of bed and into the darkness. In a fluid swipe I pulled …

Memoirs of an Assassin #6 – Phantom Pain

In WritingTags Fiction, Stories, WritingJuly 29, 201026 Comments Walt

Rain draws near. As the thick black clouds roll across the sky, one persistent phantom of my past comes to pay a visit. Like any courteous guest, I am presented with gifts upon arrival. First a dull ache, then a vivid rush of memories. My uninvited guest goes to great lengths to remind me of past decisions. Unlike most of my memories, this dark and twisted nightmare of my waking hours comes with fondness. It was the first time since …

Memoirs of an Assassin #5 – Painful Memories

In WritingTags Fiction, serial, StoriesJuly 23, 201028 Comments Walt

Today marks the five-year anniversary of my death. While my body and mind may live on, my compassion and love have rotted to dust. One horrific moment in my existence changed my life forever. That moment created the soulless monster that I am today. Five years. One thousand eight hundred twenty five days. Forty three thousand eight hundred hours. To some, five years seems like a lifetime. Two love-struck individuals come together and the foundation of a family is formed. …

Writing Adventure Group Theme #30 – Broken

In WritingTags Stories, Syrus, WAGJuly 20, 20108 Comments Walt

It has been entirely too long since I have participated in the Writers Adventure Group. With some sort of predictable routine emerging, post baby-birth, I found a little spare time to sneak in some writing for this weeks theme. Like in some previous weeks, I have used this writing exercise as an opportunity for a little self observation. While this is not a piece of fiction, I think writing non-fiction in story form ultimately helps the creative writing process, in …

Memoirs of an Assassin #4 – Ignorance is Bliss

In WritingTags Fiction, StoriesJuly 15, 201018 Comments Walt

Throughout the course of my professional career, I have adopted a mantra of sorts. Before undergoing any job, I would tell myself “Ignorance is Bliss”. In the broad scope of things this is a terrible way to view life, but it my case it was the only way to remain focused. By remaining ignorant to the demented thoughts of twisted individuals, I had risen to the top of my field. There comes a time in life when morals are tested. …

Writing Adventure Group Theme #26 – Fish out of Water

In WritingTags Fiction, Stories, WAGJune 16, 20106 Comments Walt

Just like last week, time was tight and I felt the shadow of this weeks deadline falling upon me. When I read the Writers Adventure Group prompt, I had an idea come to mind that I intended to run with. The base is there but I wasn’t able to explore it as deeply as I would have liked. I think it is an interesting social situation that few partake in these days. Writing Adventure Group theme #26 “Fish out of …

Instagram post 2194655705206466528_205973269 8 Miles in the woods today - we’re both beat!
Instagram post 2188903448250909365_205973269 When I first heard about the concept of an Infinity Bottle - I knew I had to make one. While putting it together I thought it would be amazing (lots of good whiskey went into the bottle). The finished product is... well, a little weird...
.
I’m looking forward to tinkering with it and seeing how it evolves over time.

Instagram post 2185999451068158668_205973269 Nice mild night to be out in the deck with a cigar and a little Makers Mark. Also picked up a bottle of Maker’s 46 - I’m curious how they compare.

Instagram post 2179511146457681213_205973269 Took the dog for a walk and decided to finish off my cigar with a little Monkey Shoulder when I got back. It’s a nice change of pace but I think I like bourbon a little better.

Instagram post 2174349788267187207_205973269 Back in my youth I remember the occasional shot of Wild Turkey 101 and how rough it was. At least a decade later, pored neat and sipped on, this goes down surprisingly easy. At $25 per bottle I’d say this is definitely one of the more memorable “Budget Bourbons” I’ve had.
