It has been six days since I’ve stepped on the scale and I’m beginning to feel a little nervous. I’ve spent the last several months trying to eat around 1,800 calories. Some days I’d go as high as 2,200 but I tried to keep those types of days to a minimum.
Over the past week I’ve been eating between 2,500 and 2,900 per day. I’ve been working out hard and my Fitbit says I’m still eating at a deficit but seeing those calories logged every day causes a little concern. Since I won’t weight in I really don’t have any way of knowing if it is causing me to gain weight.
I don’t appear to be gaining weight, although the mirror can be cruel at times, and I seem to have more energy (especially after a hard workout). It seems like things are going well but without some way to justify it with hard numbers, it is a tough pill to swallow.
I’m still struggling with my macros. It is almost as if I have to snack on chicken throughout the day, or skip vegetables at dinner, in order to keep my ratio of Protein to Carbs in check. Yesterday I wound up eating 180 grams of protein but it was only 26% of my intake. Carbs were sky-high at 275 grams with 45% of my intake. Fat was higher that it should have been with 70 grams at 26%.
Yesterday was Leg Day in the gym. It is the shortest of my gym sessions but it seems to be the most effective. I always wake up sore and fatigued the following day. On a side note, my wife tells me my ass is looking great these days (byproduct of squats, I suppose – but then again I’ve always had a nice ass. But I digress…. lol). I just wish I could figure out a way to make my other routines feel as effective.
Looking at yesterday as a whole, I felt pretty good. Given a bit more time I’m sure I’ll adjust and feel more comfortable with the thought of turning my back on the scale.
