Completely Exhausted

Walt - Exhausted - 2

At this very moment it is 7:15pm on Wednesday night. I am absolutely exhausted but feel like I need to make the most of this little bit of downtime and write up a quick blog post.

I’m not sure what had lead up to me feeling so tired but I suspect it is my gym sessions catching up to me. Over the past 10 days I’ve been in the gym for 9 of them. None of those sessions were what I’d call a walk in the park and I always come away tired with sweat dripping off of me.

My quality of sleep seems to be better than it has been over the past couple of months but I’m having difficulty sleeping for long periods of time. If I can manage to sleep for 6 hours without waking up I consider it a great night.

My water intake on any given day tends to range between 120 and 180 ounces (I try for at least a gallon). When it comes to my diet, it is kind of all over the place. I don’t put any restrictions on what I can and can’t have but I do try and limit my total calories to 1,800 when not working out and upwards of 2,300 when working out.

I’d really like to figure out a plan for Macros but the subject kind of goes over my head. Some say 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight, others say 1 gram per pound of lean body mass. Some people talk about insulin shock and how to balance carbohydrates throughout the day. Some people say there really isn’t a good way of mapping macros without having your body fat tested accurately (hydro or bod pod). So many opinions, how do you find the right one?

The strange thing is that when I’m in the gym and putting in the work, I feel great. I’m awake, my mind feels sharp, and I always feel like I could add just a little more work before calling it a day. After I get home, jump in the shower, and grab something to eat, I crash. Sometimes I crash really hard (much like today).

I don’t know what the answer is but I feel great, right up until I don’t…

  1. Food you need to eat more! Your Car runs great until it runs out of fuel. You are not giving yourself enough Fuel. If you work out in the morning you are still running on what you had the night before but once you burn that off you will crash if you don’t stay up with the food. That is why you are crashing, up your intake, smaller meals more throughout the day. Tons of water, Lean protein, a decent amount of healthy carbs. I eat about 9 meals a day but they are small amounts. Don’t wait till your hungry, cause its to late to fuel up by then. Stay in front of it. And You really need to try and sleep more, take it from somebody who now has 2 children, your sleep will become harder and harder to come by, I have read studies that you need at least 8 hours of sleep, and 30 mins extra per hour of work out on top of that. Be careful of the crash I have experienced it and its horrible and really can play tricks on your mind and life performance. Keep up the good fuel Buddy!
