Over the last few weeks, Pennsylvania has been pummeled with snow. We are in this viscous cycle of accumulated snowfall followed by bitter cold temperatures. Man made mountains of snow and ice litter the streets and, at the rate we are going, these mountains aren’t going to melt away anytime soon.
As bad as conditions are in residential areas, local sporting clubs and gun ranges are even worse. While driveways and parking lots may be accessible, pistol bays and rifle ranges often go untouched. Shooting in over a foot of snow may be a fun little novelty but it makes running a formal match impossible.
The first USPSA Match of the season was scheduled for February 23rd at Ontelaunee Rod & Gun Club. With conditions as bad as they have been, and things not looking much better between now and next weekend, the Match Director at Ontelaunee USPSA has cancelled the match.
Well, we were hoping the weather forecasters would be wrong again and the storm would miss us, but naturally it hit us dead on, so, I am finally raising the white flag. Sadly, we are gonna have to cancel February’s USPSA match. There is just no way the ranges will be usable.
Our first match will now be MARCH 23 and details will follow. This will be our classifier match, but we will be running only 4 classifiers (enough for new members to get a classification) and 6 field courses, round count around 250.
