Range Report: Springfield XD Sub Compact .40S&W (08/21/2011)

Amish Gun Belt - Hanks Clothing - 1

Earlier this week I posted the first of four range trip videos from August 21, 2011. That first video showed me handling the Smith & Wesson M&P. This particular video is much shorter and features the second gun of the day, the Springfield XD Sub Compact .40S&W.

The recoil of my carry gun is a bit on the snappy side, as you’ll see in the video. My shots were pulling left, which I’m sure was user-error as I have shot far better with it in the past. As you’ll see in the video, I did not change out targets when I swapped guns,so the tape on the target is getting pretty thick, making it hard to see the scoring zones (That is alright though, center mass is center mass, even if it doesn’t have a circle marking it).

  1. Hay Walt, not bad, looks good, short barrel on the sub compact, makes it a little hard to control. Practice, practice!

    1. Yeah, the whole gun is pretty small in the Sub Compact. I was very concerned with being able to conceal it but with the Crossbreed Holster I probably could have easily concealed the larger Compact model.

      Thanks for watching and commenting

  2. I have a Springfield XDm 9mm (3.8 barrel) and I was ALL OVER the place shooting it the first time. It’s my first handgun so I guess that’s acceptable. Great video man, keep ’em comin’!

    1. Mike,
The more I shoot the XD Sub Compact, the better I shoot. Learning to control it took some getting used to in a pistol so small.

I’m glad you like the videos. Thanks for the comment

  3. I have the Glock 30/.45 subcompact and it took some time to get used to. The recoil is a major difference, but it is nice knowing that I can conceal it easily. I feel confident in it knowing that the caliber will definitely put down a would be attacker.
Really enjoy watching the range videos, makes me want to hit the range more often.

    1. Jan,
The recoil of my Springfield is pretty snappy but I love shooting it. I just wish .40 S&W was a little less expensive. If so, I’d shoot my carry gun far more than I already do.

Thanks for watching. I find that these videos make for a great training aid to see where I need additional work.
